Festive Tipples with Scotch + Limon

When it comes to drinks, there is very little that Barrie Wilson and Fabrice Limon do not know. With over 40 years of experience between them, this tenacious twosome decided to set up their own company which they aptly named Scotch + Limon.

In the spirit of festive cheer (pun intended), we asked Barrie and Fabrice to create a few tipples just for Smythson. Here is how it’s done…

Fabrice and Barrie met for the first time when they were judging a gin competition with some of the finest bartenders in the north of England. “After that, we became good friends through our wives who forced us to hang out and drink cocktails.” With an expertise that covers everything from bartending to the infinite world of boutique spirits, we could not help ourselves from asking them for a bit of insider knowledge…

What are your top tips for throwing a cocktail party?

  1. Make sure you have plenty of ice (double what you initially think)
  2. Prepare everything in advance and decant into bottles/jugs
  3. Keep your glasses in the freezer
  4. Make sure you spend a lot of time on the playlist – great music makes a great party

What is the best way to handle someone who has had one too many?

Serve them non-alcoholic drinks with food and always remind them of their behaviour the following day.

What cocktail looks more complicated than it is?

The classic champagne cocktail, you just drop a sugar cube into a champagne flute with a dash of angostura bitters, slug of cognac and top with champagne. Every cocktail looks more complicated than it is. They are actually really easy to do; it’s all about a balance of flavours, temperature and confidence.
