The Bee and the Acorn Book Launch at Madison Avenue

This week our Madison Avenue boutique played host to Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) president and founder Paula Wallace to launch her memoir, The Bee and the Acorn. Hosted by Rickie De Sole, W Magazine’s Fashion Market and Accessories Director and long-time friend to SCAD, guests were invited to discover the incredible story of a truly ground-breaking individual.

“As a long time friend and admirer of Paula, it is an honour to be given the opportunity for Smythson to assist with the launch her memoir. Her passion and commitment to the development of young people is extraordinary. I hope that women and men around the world will pick it up and be inspired by her life and all she has accomplished.”

– Mark Daley, CEO, Smythson

In The Bee and the Acorn, President Wallace shares the remarkable story behind the creation of the most revered and comprehensive art and design university in the world. Readers journey with Wallace from her Atlanta Public Schools elementary classroom to storied Savannah, where Wallace built a new kind of college, marrying the best of higher education tradition with pedagogical and curricular innovation.

To celebrate the occasion, we created a special edition Panama notebook featuring Paula’s personal mantra ‘Rise Above It’ alongside exquisite illustrations by SCAD alumnus Emily Isabella (B.F.A., fibers, 2008). Handcrafted in England by our artisans, this book honours creativity, innovation and design, the principles of which define both Smythson and President Wallace.

The Bee and the Acorn and ‘Rise Above It’ Panama notebooks will be available for a limited time only at 667 Madison Avenue. For more information please visit thebeeandtheacorn.com.
