As part of our series The One, documenting the tips of the well-travelled, Fashion Features Director of British Vogue, Sarah Harris, divulges which hotel’s club sandwich reigns supreme and reveals the hidden corners of London where the Vogue team can frequently be found.
What is the one thing that cures your jet lag?
I’m yet to figure out a cure for jet lag but thankfully I’m a pretty good sleeper and I don’t tend to struggle too badly.
What’s your one travel remedy?
My number one remedy before taking a flight is to book a facial with Fere. She’s based at Neville on Pont Street, and you just book in for a time slot and she does a bespoke facial tailor made to what your skin needs. You see a real difference afterwards: my skin is dewy and glowy, feels hydrated and looks at least five years younger. As for my one dependable travel item? Paracetamol.
“If I’m travelling for fashion week, the Smythson currency case is great for expenses and receipts because it saves switching between wallets and keeps everything in one place.”
What is the one item that you always steal (or want to steal) from a hotel?
I recently stayed at Soho House and their bathrobes were pretty tempting…I just returned from LA for the Dior cruise show and they embroidered our initials on the pillow cases at the Shutters on the Beach Hotel. I took that in my suitcase, but I’m pretty sure we were supposed to.
Whats the one thing you always order from room service?
“I never travel without my Eve Lom lip balm and my eye mask from Illuminage: it’s a skin rejuvenating eye mask with copper oxide, and I don’t know what it’s supposed to do but it’s super comfortable.“
“I love the Burlington backpack because I love being hands-free.”
What’s the final word in luxury?
Cashmere blankets from Denis Colomb.
What’s the one outfit you turn to in-flight?
I wear my Nike/Sacai collaboration tracksuit trousers, Paige T-shirts (which are super soft and cashmere) and cashmere socks. I love travelling with my Raey cashmere sweater, it’s a roll neck and I have it in camel and in grey. It’s basically giant-sized so it feels like you’re wrapped under the most heavenly blanket. I could live in this sweater. I love the Burlington backpack because I love being hands-free.

If you could only eat one meal in London, where would it be?
Home is the best place for breakfast. I’m not sure anyone makes a better breakfast than me, although Granger and Co. does great scrambled eggs. I love boiled eggs and soldiers and crispy bacon. I love pancakes too. Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day. For lunch, I really like Mount Street Deli. For dinner, I think my favourite meal in London is probably the lobster and truffle macaroni cheese at 34. Heaven on a plate.
Where is the one place you always go for a cocktail?
The David Collins Bar at the Connaught always feels special.
Where is the place you are guaranteed to find relaxation?
DryBy on Mortimer street for a pedicure. They’re so thorough, you sit back and relax for around 90 minutes and you leave with brand new feet.
And the one shop you always return to?
Alex Eagle Studio on Lexington Street, Soho, because she has incredible taste and there is always something you feel like you can’t live without in there.
If you could eat in one place for the rest of your days, where would it be?
So hard to choose one favourite location! But I love pasta, and the most satisfying is the tomato and basil spaghetti at Palazzo Parigi in Milan, where the Vogue team stay during Milan Fashion Week. It might be because you’ve barely eaten anything during the day, but I literally look forward to a bowl of that pasta all day long when I’m there.
If you are only travelling with one bag, what do you pack?
YSL Cinema perfume. Eve Lom lip balm. Matis day and night cream. Master and Dynamic headphones, because the ones on the plane never make you feel good. Paige jeans (I don’t think I go anywhere without jeans). I also love the Smythson jewellery boxes. I never travel without my Eve Lom lip balm and my eye mask from Illuminage: it’s a skin rejuvenating eye mask with copper oxide, and I don’t know what it’s supposed to do but it’s super comfortable.
